State Herbicide Contacts

NOTE: Herbicides are regulated at the state, federal, and sometimes even county levels of government. These agencies authorize products and particular uses of those products within their jurisdictions. A compost producer that observes suspected persistent herbicide contamination should file a complaint with one’s state or local government by providing as much information as possible regarding the potential source(s) of feedstocks that contributed to the contamination. Reports are kept confidential while they are investigated. USCC have researched contacts in every state where compost producers can report issues. Some states had more online resources than others but at a minimum these state lists will inform you of the agency that regulates herbicides in your state.
