US Composting Council’s First Young Professional Scholarships Awarded

The US Composting Council Board of Directors has awarded the first Young Professional Scholarships for 2017. These scholarships have been awarded to 16 young professionals who will help cultivate USCC membership in the 18-40 generation as future leaders of the compost manufacturing and organics recycling industry.

The USCC, in reviewing applications, was looking for applicants who demonstrated a commitment to their future in the industry; a willingness to volunteer and take leadership in growing the young demographic of the council.

“This is an investment in our future and young industry professionals who will continue to lead the industry and highlight compost and compost manufacturing as integral to climate change mitigation, food waste reduction and zero-waste goals,” said Lorrie Loder-Rossiter, USCC President.

The scholarships, awarded through the support of the USCC’s Benefactor members—Caterpillar, Inc.; Kimberly Clark Professional and Scotts Miracle-Gro, empowers these young, new leaders to use their vision to establish events, training and activities around networking, mentoring, service and business development—the four prime goals that came from a brainstorming session at COMPOST2015 in Austin, TX.
